Trying out the new jib

Trying out the new jib

Departure: Clipper Yacht Harbor
Arrival: Clipper Yacht Harbor
Distance (nm): 15
Engine Hours (trip end): ??
Crew & Guests: Julian, Colin
Weather: Usual sunny, summer Bay day

Log: With the new jib installed, we headed off for a test ride, a bit concerned that it is considerably smaller than the 125% Genoa we have been using to date.  The new jib is much higher cut and probably 100% or perhaps a little less.  A couple of observations:

  • The higher cut sail works well with the staysail – using the two sails provides some more flexibility.
  • The smaller headsail is considerably much easier to take through the gap between the forestay and the inner stay.
  • It seems like we can point measurably higher.

So, all in, we are pretty pleased with the new sail.
