Gloomy Golden Gate and a kayaker rescue by helicopter!

Departure:  Clipper
Arrival:  Clipper
Distance (nm):  22.1
Engine Hours:  2.5
Crew & Guests:  Julian, Colin ando Marley
Weather:  Grey and cool. Windy outside the Golden Gate

Log:

We awoke to grey and overcast skies but we needed to sail.  Headed down out the channel towards the Golden Gate Bridge. Calm water but once we headed west out the gate the wind picked up and the seas became rolling.  2-3 metre waves with deep troughs and lots of rolling and crashing down the backside of the waves. Marley did not enjoy it at all, and we even were a bit queasy at times.  Headed off towards the shipping channel riding and surfing the waves and playing with the movie camera.  We made our first sailing video  (attached) and are looking forward to making many more as we embark on much more sailing. On our way back to the bay, there was a distress call from a kayaker who had been smashed into the  rocks at Bonita Lighthouse and the Coast Guard was out in full force. We even got to  watch them rescue the man with a helicopter and hanging from a rope. Very exciting.
