Sailing out the old year – 2017

Sailing out the old year – 2017

Departure:  Clipper
Arrival:  Clipper
Distance (nm): 20.8
Engine Hours:  1.0
Crew & Guests:  Julian, Colin, and (an even happy than last time) Marley
Weather: Bit overcast, but WIND (at last).

Log:  Back from the U.K., Christmas is over, and there’s some wind so its time to go sailing!

Modest wind to start led to ‘nice and breezy’ after a while, so it was an excellent sail.  Large spring tides (strong currents) and wind shadows through Raccoon Straights kept us in the slot for maximum fun.  We have no idea of the wind speed, or depth, etc., being in the middle of the electronics refit, but the chartplotter’s working great.

With some new video editing software, we thought we’d catch some footage and see if I can figure it out.  This is the result – not very informative or interesting , but I made the program work, and its a step up from editing on the app on a tablet.

2017 was a good year for sailing – started off in Tonga where we committed to buying another boat, bought Pistachio and enjoyed a bunch of sailing including a great trip to Monterey Bay in June. Really decided what type of boat we’d like long-term and found it in Boundless. Sold Pistachio, and embarked upon completing the refit started by the previous owner to get Boundless ready for some new adventures.

Here’s to 2018!
